MY STYLE TUESDAY

Photography can be a very intimidating hobby to take up if you start with absolutely no knowledge on the topic. There is so much information available it is easy to understand why people become overwhelmed. In the following article, you can find helpful, organized tips on how you can start shooting better pictures. Choose what you want to have in your photograph. Imagine a window through which you see only a selected portion of the subject. If you try to put too much into one photograph, you'll overwhelm yourself and your viewers. If you are trying to convey an overall impression of a scene, shoot a sequence of pictures, instead of a single image without a clear subject. Think about the things you want seen in your picture. A quality picture should capture a significant aspect of the object your are photographing. Do not show that much. Try taking a series of photos for a better impression of a subject than one without details and focus. Here is a little did-you-know photo hint! Learn the uses of the different shutter speeds. There are different settings on a camera. These include M, A, P and S. The P setting is your program mode. The program mode allows you to set up the shutter speed and the aperture automatically. For general use, the "P" setting is the right one to choose. If you're taking pictures of landscapes, you will want to create depth and perspective for the viewer. Foreground is very important in landscape photography; place an object in the foreground to create a sense of depth and scale. When you set your camera with a small aperture, no more than f/8 and no more than f/16, you will get a clearer picture. It is a good idea to experiment with the different features your camera has and also with many angles and colors. You can get an interesting, artistic photo without having an amazing subject to shoot. Ideally, a photographer is able to use his or her technical skills and artistic eye to add visual interest to even the most basic subject. Practice and experiment until you find your own personal style! Keeping your batteries charged will help you never miss the shot of a lifetime. You should always load your digital camera with fully-charged batteries, because it can be a real energy hog, especially when you use the LCD screen. It is also a good idea to carry around spare batteries. This way you will never miss out on a great shot. Take down notes on different experiments you perform while taking your photographs. If you take countless photos, it may be hard to recall why or where you took them. Carry a small notebook with you so you can take brief notes as you take each photograph. Consider taking photographs of the souvenirs bought on your trip. Having the back-story on these things, such as where they were purchased or obtained, brings new depth to the items photographed. This helps you create an interesting photo essay around the souvenirs you selected that can increase your enjoyment of the photos once you return home. Invest in a simple tripod to take better pictures. Shakes are noticeable in a photo regardless of the settings you have on the camera. An inexpensive tripod will help keep blurs out of your images.
